This class will teach an original Tribal Fusion Choreography by Sharon Kihara, made for the Tribal Bellydance Superstars! Learn to blend slow, flowing movement with pops and locks, seamless transitions, smooth layers and crisp, powerful turns. This class is for the ambitious beginner/intermediate up to the pro. Options will be given so that each student can customize their dance to suit their taste and ability. Yoga/pilates warm up and cool-down will be included. Movement Diversification - A Tribal Fusion workshop focusing on the beauty of merging movement... Vorona teaches "Movement Diversification"- A Tribal Fusion workshop geared towards the beginner/intermediate level student that is looking to expand horizons of this dance style: Anatomically, Physiologically, and Energetically. This two hour workshop will focus on drills as a "point system" enabling the student a better understanding of muscle memory. We will also cover "body immitation" techniques along with attuning energy pathways of muscle groups that play an important role in polished isolations and emphasis on the flow of movement. Utilizing these key aspects will enable the student to gain a clear perspective on how to create artistic ideas for troupe and solo choreography. Worksop - SAMANTHA RIGGS - Sunday 2-4pm - Fosse-lized! more info SUNDAY November 16. 2pm-4pm at SOJA Martial Arts studio: 2406 Webster St. Oakland. Samantha Riggs 2 hour workshop. Fosse-lized! Let us tip our stylish bowler hats to Bob Fosse, jazz dance choreographer extraordinaire! Samantha has brought the stylized, cynical sexuality of Fosse to Bellydance and Fosse-lized some tribal fusion combos for you to learn. These combos are dark, satirical and full of attitude and emotive body language. Besides his distinctive dance style (which included the use of inward knees, rounded shoulders and body isolations), Fosse also utilized the idea of subtext (unspoken thoughts and motives - the content underneath the dialogue) and gave his dancers something to think about during their numbers. Samantha will facilitate the incorporation of subtext into dance to help develop better acting technique on stage, bringing an awareness of pushing an intent just beneath the surface to create more intensity. Long skirts will just get in your way, so please wear form-fitting pants or shorts. Fosse believed that "The time to sing is when your emotional level is too high to just speak anymore, and the time to dance is when your emotions are just too strong to only sing about how you feel." In its 3rd year, Shadowdance has moved to a new location
that we are really excited about. We couldn't have found a more
appropriate venue to complement the vibe of this special night.
Much thanks to our friends at ORBIS NEX for hosting us.

As if we didn't have amazing lineups from the start, we have another uniquely dark
experience for you this year with even more dark faces from across the country landing
on our doorsteps on the fourteenth day in November of two thousand eight.

We will have 2 seatings, both being different. and each being equally spectacular.
if you book your V.E.P. pass, you'll see 2 different seated theater shows and stay for
the late night Cirque Noir which will feature DJs, vendors, outdoor fire performances
Ariellah's MIDNIGHT GALLERY & ELECTRIC VARDO's Sideshows with Surprises.

We will have weekend workshops with
SHARON KIHARA, SAMANTHA RIGGS and VORONA
on Saturday and Sunday. See ticketing options for details.

There are several ticketing options. Ticketing fees are included in price.
Note that any tickets ordered for the theater seatings include entry for the night.
You do Not need to buy a separate Cirque Noir ticket if you are purchasing seats for the theater perfomances. As a bonus, the V.E.P. pass gets you seats for both theater performances at 7 and 9, Cirque Noir entrance with preferred seating in the 5th row and a Mix CD made especially for Shadowdance by DJ Amar. Mix CDs are also available by separate purchase at the show or ordered here online.
